What is American Cancer Society Relay For Life?

The ACS relay for life is a funfilled, overnight experience you'll never forget. It's the gathering of friends, family members, businesses, schools, places of worship...people from all walks of life. The relay mobilizes communities throughout the country to celebrate survivors, remember loved ones and raise money to support the mission of ACS, to eliminate  cancer.Teams are formed and gather donations, then gather with tents and sleeping bags to camp out at the site and take turns walking aroud the path.It is required that a member of the team should be at the track  at all times during this overnight event- because cancer never sleeps.Cancer survivors are invited as honored guests to take part in a Survivors Lap.Their courage and strengh help people see the progress in the fight against cancer. When the sun goes down, hundreds of lluminaria are lit under the stars to remember those lost to cancer, those fighting cancer, and those who have fought the battle and won.The luminaria symbolize the hope and perseverance with which we all continue to fight. The Relay is the connection to the support that ACS provides, people become more knowledgeable about cancer prevention and early detection, learn about services availablefor cancer patients and their families. And you can connect with others to advocate for funds and policies to aid in the fight against cancer.

The PAMET No. Ca. Team join the relay in Fremont, Ca held on Jun 26,27 2010 Held at The school for the Deaf  in Fremont.

There are  almost 50 teams in this relay and of course we have our PAMET NO. CA TEAM in the spot light being in charge of the FIGHT BACK Tent, thanks to Liz Dequinia for being in charge of  the fight back committee. The main goal of the Fight Back is to reach out to people to make pledges to fight cancer, So we have to invite all the relayers passing by to stop and sign their pledges. They don't even have to pledge money just their signatures. We have reach out to more than 200 people to pledge throughout the day, example of the fight back pledges : eat right and exercise more, stop smoking, using sunscreen, getting tested for mammogram, colonoscopy, and forming teams for relay to raise funds and etc.,

Our fundraising in this event is selling Barbeque, spring rolls and melon drinks, pearl drinks, fruits and vegetable salad and energy bars. The gains was donated to the relay.
The relay experience is really a very touching experience, being part of this big event, The PAMET TEAM coming together to help in our own small way and making a difference in the fight against cancer.
